Slice of Life – And we have flowers!

Spring in the Garden!

We have gone from cold and snow to sunny warm with temperatures near 80 degrees. In this mix of crazy weather the spring flowers have begun to find their way. The first to bloom in my garden are the daffodils. If you stand back and look they are a beautiful yellow or white and yellow. There seem to be marching across the yard.

For a gardener it is all about observation. So if you get closer and really look you see there are many varieties. There are two that look alike but the center or corona is a dark yellow on one and a pale yellow on the other. There are a couple where the corona is long and narrow while others it is short and floppy. 3354ce2e-c752-4da0-8af6-9a365855465f2d03340b-e44a-433d-97ca-9984814cc7e0

There is also the spice bush with yellow flowers to go along with the early spring yellow theme.

Our weather has cooled a bit, which is good so we can enjoy this splash of yellow before the tulips take over with their rainbow of colors. Hope you are enjoying spring as much as I am!

Oh wow! That is gorgeous! There is nothing like a daffodil to make you smile. You must feel like a new mom as you watch them spring to life.

How lovely! Daffodils always make me smile…so cheerful and sunshine-y.

  3. Oh, that bush. I love that little bush! Reminds me of a potentilla, but the foliage isn’t as fine…
Thanks for a sneak peak into your garden. Look forward to more photos in the future. maribeth

It is sometime called Buffalo Current or Spice Bush – The flowers look like the forsythia but it’s leaves come out first and then the flowers. When in full bloom it smells like nutmeg. A great bush to have in the spring!

Your weather is so similar to ours in Michigan, My daffodils are beautiful this year too!

  5. Oh these daffodils make me so happy. One thing I love about bulbs is that you really don’t have to do any work and they just show up all cheerful and hopeful.

Our daffodils are over. We are now waiting for the lilacs to bloom. The Bush is loaded with flowers.
