It’s the little things that can help!

yellows-and-brown-groundThe days have been hard with so much large thinking and wonderings about our country, and the beautiful people who make up this melting pot of friends. There are moments that it becomes just to much.

Yesterday I walked over to my yoga session. It was cool crisp and a bit cloudy. My mind was swimming with to much information from wondering the deep corners of the internet. My muscles were tight and my new Fitbit told me my heart rate was up more that it should be. I was so glad I was going to yoga.

When I arrived the door was locked and one small light was burning in the upstairs window. Did I miss something? Was there no yoga today? My disappointment was gathering but I choose to sit and just wait.

My bottom was cold on the steps in my tight yoga pants but my eyes quickly moved my thoughts to the barren apple tree, the little plum tree and down to the strawberry plans still green in this long fall we are having. I noticed that there were two crisp oak leaves moving just a bit. A little wiggle here and there. The other leaves around them were still and nestled into the long green grass. The wiggle moved over a bit to another set of leaves, then back again. images

As I focused on this little movement my mind and body slowed. I settled into the life of what I am sure was a small mouse or chipmunk gathering food to help him through the winter. I never saw him just evidence of him in the movement of fallen leaves.

It was only a few minutes of sitting before the door behind me opened and I entered the yoga studio but those minutes of careful watching and listened helped me let go of the scattered world for just a bit. My heart rate settled, my muscled relaxed and my brain released the tension that was swirling around me.

Take a minute to just watch – the moon, the stars the leaves. Take a short, slow walk and just focus on the world around you. It helps!

“those minutes of careful watching and listened helped me let go of the scattered world for just a bit” Excellent advice for all of us.

I’m all about getting outside and walking right now. Tough to squeeze in between our rainy days, but I’m doing my best. Your post was just what the doctor ordered: “Take a moment to just watch . . . and focus on the world around you. It helps.”
