Slice of Life Challenge Day 31 – Words over the years

Slice of Life logoIt has been 5 years of writing this blog, counting this year. It is amazing to think about what I have learned during this time. At times I was writing daily or at least several times a week. Other times I fell away as life pushed itself into the picture but I always come back.

I am not good at the personal daily journal. I seem to need to have a publish button to push. I love the comments but I don’t write for them. I work well with a commitment to write for others.

I took some time yesterday as I watch the fog drift in and out on Lake Superior and to read the last post of each March challenge over the last 4 years. My thoughts were similar from year to year but also showed changes along the way.

2012 – I began this journey of writing needing an itinerary, a printed out map. I sought out the familiar sites and the things I knew. I wrote on paper first or maybe in Word but never directly to my blog page. I read the blogs that were familiar and stayed in my comfort zone.

2013 – I have gain so much from reading the posts of other writers. I have loved the sweetness of reading comments left on my site. I have learned more about my own writing process as I pushed through the month and reflected…

2014 – Thinks I learned and re learned: • writing gets easier the more I write • my thinking on a topic becomes clear when I have to put my thoughts on paper • if I just start writing ideas flow – don’t wait for an idea just begin • reading the writing of others is helpful • feedback is important – a comment here and there really helps – always leave comments for fellow writers • writing gets easier the more I write – DID I SAY THAT ALREADY!

2015 – It is this not so little community of writers that keeps me going. This community that shows me we are all writers and reminds me that this is hard work but doable and so enjoyable.

2016 – Thank You Two Writing Teachers for providing this platform for us to write and learn from each other. It makes a difference! Thank you writers for writing, reading and commenting. It means a lot!

See you on Tuesdays!

Thank you to Solglimt Bed and Breakfast for a great place to write the last few days of the challenge and a wonderful view of Lake Superior!

(even with the fog and grey skies)

What a great tradition, to read back through your reflection posts from each year. This is my first year, but I hope to make it my tradition too!
